Ann E. Jeffers

Ann Jeffers is an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She made a name for herself with her research on fire safety engineering, finite element analysis, and computational methods. She has earned a number of awards including the prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2013) and the Harry C. Bigglestone Award (2013) for a paper published in Fire Technology. She is widely know for her service to the fire safety engineering and structural engineering professions. Ann is an advocate for mental health and seeks to bring knowledge and awareness to the general community about what it is like to live with mental illness through her writing. Her forthcoming memoir, Can You Hear the Music? A Memoir about Mental Illness in the Academy, describes her experience being diagnosed with and recovering from bipolar disorder and PTSD.
